Plain terms
The Hunter-Finch Family Tree is a private, family-operated website. It is not a commercial product and is not operated by a business entity. This policy describes how the site handles personal information collected from family members who choose to sign in and participate.

We collect information in two ways:
When you sign in. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, those services share your name, email address, and profile picture with us as part of the authentication process. If you sign in with an email address directly, we receive only that email address. We do not receive passwords — authentication is handled entirely by the sign-in provider.
When you submit a tree correction. The suggestion form asks for your name (required), an optional email address or phone number in case we need to follow up, and the text of your suggestion. Submissions are stored in a private database accessible only to family administrators.
Our web hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) maintains standard server logs that may include your IP address and browser type. These are retained for security and diagnostic purposes and are not used to identify or track individuals.
We use the information we collect for one purpose: to run this site for the family. Specifically:
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, analytics, or any commercial purpose of any kind.
The family tree contains historical records about family members, including names, birth dates, marriage dates, and family relationships. Much of this information concerns individuals who are deceased.
If you believe information about a living family member is inaccurate or should be removed, please use the suggestion form on any branch page or contact us directly. We will review and address requests promptly.
Access to the family tree is restricted to signed-in family members. The tree is not publicly searchable or indexed by search engines.

We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics services.
Your account information (name and email) is retained for as long as your account remains active. Tree correction suggestions are retained as a record of the site's history, but your name and contact details associated with a suggestion can be removed on request.
If you delete your account, your personal information is removed. Corrections you submitted that have already been applied to the family tree remain, but are disassociated from your account.

You can also revoke this site's access to your Google or Facebook account at any time through those platforms' privacy settings, which will prevent future sign-ins using that method.

If we make significant changes to how we handle personal information, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify active family members by email where possible. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
